Testa di Liberty volta a sinistra. I capelli sono raccolti in una crocchia e fissati con un filo di perle, indossa una corona con la scritta LIBERTY. Nel giro 13 stelle, in basso la data. Aquila ad ali spiegate, con scudo sul petto, che stringe un ramo d'ulivo nel suo artiglio destro, e un mazzo di frecce nel sinistro. Nel giro UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, in basso il valore, TEN D. Il marchio di zecca, ove presente, è posizionato in basso, tra gli artigli dell'aquila e il valore.
Dopo una lunghissima interruzione, nel 1838 riprendono le coniazioni delle "Eagles", con peso e diametro ridotti rispetto alle monete precedenti: i parametri cosí fissati rimarranno invariati fino al 1929.

Il disegno, conosciuto come "Liberty Head", è stato utilizzato dal 1838 al 1866 nella variante "No Motto", e dal 1866 al 1907 con l'aggiunta del motto IN GOD WE TRUST in un cartiglio sopra la testa dell'aquila. Il dritto mostra una testa coronata di Liberty di ispirazione neoclassica, mentre il rovescio è quello tipico di Gobrecht, con l'aquila ad ali spiegate con scudo sul petto.
